Omega Alpha Omega Chapter decided to take on the rain Saturday morning, May 30, 2015 at the MLK Recreation Center as we cleaned up around the park and restored landscaping in front of the center. After already being postponed once due to rain, we were eager to take part in the service project, which was part of a global Community Impact Day celebrated throughout the sorority. The 1908 Playground Mobilization Day is part of an organized effort by the sorority to restore, refresh, and renew 1,908 playgrounds over the next four years in local communities all around the world.

We partnered with Keep Denton Beautiful, who donated supplies to help pick up trash. At least 25 volunteers braved the muddy conditions and light showers to assist with refreshing the area, which also included beautifying neighboring Rivera Elementary School by adding a spirit sign in the school’s colors to their chain-link fence. We provided snacks for the volunteers and even hired a DJ to provide some music as we completed work. This is the first of many community playground projects we have planned within our service area of Denton, Frisco, Little Elm, Prosper, and The Colony.
